Well, maybe because 5-0 might disagree. German Police stopped this car last Friday in Marxloh. All I can say is

You’d be shocked at how much you can do legally. I had a Prius C with a 6 foot tall wardrobe (hatch open) and my seat forwards to the point where my tippy toes were just touching pedals (I’m 6ft 3 so it was insane tight).

On top of that I was able to fit a bicycle box (with a bike in it) and on the roof two queen mattresses. In the passenger seat there were two dining chairs.

Everything was tied down professionally (I grew up strapping things to trucks and trailers). I only went several miles but I did get pulled over. After inspection the officers complimented the strapping and let me go on my merry way.
